Paintography Art.

Paintography is just like I said in an earlier post creating a work of art from a photograph. And it is your work of art so if you like it, that’s all that counts. But if others like it, that makes you an artist of note. Awesome.

I do my paintography in Photoshop with a free plug-in called Pixel Bender but I am sure there are other ways to create a work of art from a photograph. Join me on Google+ and tell me about your way of  manipulating photographs. Join in to the Paintography Circle here. http://gpc.fm/l/paintography. You will need a G+ account first, so sign up, G+ is THE photographers place to be.

The first thing you do is enhance the image in your editor to get the picture to the color and sharpness that you are happy with. Pixel Bender can be downloaded free from Adobe.   http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/pixelbenderplugin/  Once you are happy with the enhancement of your photograph, make sure that the image size is less than 3000px or your GPU may not be able to handle the work. My laptop will not, but maybe a more powerful desktop unit might.

Open up the Pixel Bender plug-in from the Filter menu. And choose ‘Oil Paint’ from the drop down list. Now all you have to do is move the sliders until you are happy with the result. TIP. Move them all around and watch the different effect.

Paintography will not work on all images so trial and error will be the order of the day. Different settings with the sliders in Pixel Bender will produce different results for different images. Have fun and please circle me in G+ so I can see your work and join into our Paintography Circle.
